Festival weekend rallies village

The village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale was celebrating its patron saint, St Oswald,  last weekend with jazz, worship, exhibitions, a walk and village picnic.

The annual St Oswald's Festival weekend included a concert of world jazz by Dales Jam and a small exhibition on the recently closed Horton Primary School. The exhibition, "Our school and our church: the heart and soul of Ribblesdale" continues in church until the end of August and is open every day. After the Sunday morning St Oswald's Day service half the congregation walked around the perimeter of the village before a picnic lunch.

Priest in Charge the Revd Stephen Dawson said, "People are still very raw after the loss of the school but the festival has reminded us that we still have a lot to be thankful for in these lovely but isolated villages. Dales Jam in particular cheered us up no end."
