Winning Christmas cards bring church and schools together

Christmas cards going out to homes in the parish of Holy Trinity Church, Queensbury this year have been designed by local schoolchildren as part of a project bringing together the church, its three local primary schools and local businesses.

Revd Stephen Gott, Vicar, (pictured left) said “Last year we delivered a Christmas card around the parish with a picture of the church on and our Christmas services. This year we wanted something different and to involve the schools.”

So, the church invited the school children, from Shibden Head, Foxhill and Russell Hall, to produce pictures and one was chosen from each school to go on the front of their cards this year.

“The schools really entered in to the idea and were very encouraging and supportive” said Revd Gott. “It wasn’t easy choosing the pictures to be used as they were all so good. But we gave a gift and a certificate to Mae, Ellis and Owen, whose pictures were chosen. We announced the winning pictures when the schools came into church for their respective concerts.”

“The cards have been delivered around the parish and people seem to be delighted with them.” Revd Gott added. “The schools have been so encouraging. We also put our knitted nativity figures in businesses around the village and invited the children, through the schools, to do a nativity figure hunt to find the figures.”

“Links with our local schools and businesses are really excellent” said Revd Gott. “We’re grateful to everyone for their support.”
