Messy Church is held in St John’s Church, Wakefield on Wednesdays for two hours after school, six times a year. We are now in our fifth year and continue to thrive with an attendance of between 60 and 80 people. Many families regularly attend our half termly sessions with new families frequently joining. We offer a warm Christian welcome to children, parents and carers from our local community. We provide refreshments, craft activities with a religious theme, a short celebration worship and a meal. Themes include for example Easter, Mara/Africa, Summer Celebration, Harvest, Christmas and Learning.
Children from Messy Church created the Nativity tableau for the Family Service on Sunday 11th December and on Palm Sunday they re-enacted Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem, using a wheeled donkey borrowed from Church House! The headteacher of our church school supports Messy Church by advertising our sessions as well as lending equipment to us when needed. We are blessed that so many people want to come to our Messy Church and we are so very grateful for the practical support given by the many volunteers who make this all possible. We pray that all those attending will grow in the knowledge of the love which Jesus has for each one of us.
