Disabilities blog

Welcome to our Diocesan Disability Blog! This is a place where we can share any thoughts, ideas, and wisdom with each other about disability inclusion, theology, and what it's like to live with a disability day to day. We especially want disabled people's voices to be heard on this blog, but we are happy to accept submissions from abled people too. If you would like to write, film, draw, record a sound clip, or share your thoughts in another medium for us to feature on this blog, please send it through to

We aim to post no more than once a week, so if your post hasn't been featured yet, please be patient as we may have a backlog.

By Brent Dodd I would just like to express my experience as a wheelchair user or electric scooter, which I prefer to use. I used to go to a Festival of 9 Lessons and Carols each Christmas, in fact it was the highlight of Christmas for me, I loved it. I was well aware that I could block views so I would go to the back of the cathedral so as not to spoil the experience for anyone else, usually down the side opposite the pulpit. Eisland Building a Church for Strangers by John Swinton The Enabled Life by Roy McCloughry Disability: The Inclusive Church Resource by John M. Hull Finding Jesus in...Read more

It’s something I wrestle with on a daily basis – why does God heal some people and not others, not me? My best friend preached on the topic of healing recently, and we met up afterwards to chat about it. I was reminded whilst we were talking of a passage from...Read more

by Bob Brooke One of the greatest things about human beings is our diversity. We are all unique individuals, we are all different from each other and we want to affirm and celebrate that difference. Right at the very beginning of what we call the Old Testament in Genesis Chapter 1, verse 27 we read: “God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them, male and female, he created them.” Whoever we are, we are all made in the image of God. We have the potential within us to...Read more
