Much rejoicing at launch of Bradford's new city centre church

Fountains Church has held its first official service with 175 people celebrating Bradford city centre’s new place of worship.

As progress continues towards transforming a former nightclub above City Park into a new church building, Fountains is now meeting at the Life City building on Sunday afternoons.

Fountains minister Revd Linda Maslen said the first gathering of committed worshippers was full of joy.

“Our first meeting on Sunday was a time of great rejoicing!” said Revd Linda, pictured below with curates Peter Gunstone and Nat Poole.

“It really marked the end of the beginning after all the consultations which have involved applying for funding, recruiting team member and seeing who God was calling together to plant.”

Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd Toby Howarth announced and commissioned the team, including pouring out a large amount of oil on Jon Biggin’s head - as promoted by Archdeacon of Bradford Andy Jolley’s reference to Psalm 133.

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

“It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his robe.”

Bishop Toby praised all involved in bringing Fountains Church into existence and thanked those clergy and ministers from across Bradford who attended the launch.

“This is a wonderful moment for all of us, for our city and beyond,” he said.
