MU provides flip -flops to help Street Angels at work
Mothers’ Union, Diocese of Leeds held its Council meeting and AGM last week at Holy Trinity Church, Idle. The guest speaker was Paul Blakey MBE, who with his wife, Jean, founded Street Angels in Halifax in 2005. Paul gave an amusing and interesting talk about the success of Street Angels which has now become the CNI (Christian Nightlife Initiatives) Network and supports projects in 130 communities in the UK and abroad from the seaside to the city; the nightclub to the music festival.
MU President, Jean Thurman, tried on a foil poncho, carried by Street Angels to prevent hypothermia and Paul took home hundreds of pairs of flip-flops collected by MU members – these are given to young ladies who have difficulty walking on a night out in unsuitable footwear.
Paul asked the meeting to pray ‘for the peace and prosperity of the places where we live’and Jean Thurman commented that MU and Street Angels are both organisations which bring Jesus to communities through their prayers and projects.
