Easter Chrism Services draw crowds across our diocese

St Peter & St Leonard's, Horbury a parish of The Society, held a packed Chrism Mass on Palm Sunday with a congregation of lay folk, ordinands, deacons and priests from across the diocese.

Fr Christopher Johnson, vicar of Horbury, welcomed the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield and chairman of The Society, who conducted the ceremony which is one of the most solemn and significant liturgical events of the year.

The mass is named after the blessing of holy oils which are then taken back to parishes to be used in sacraments throughout the coming year.

Ripon Cathedral will hold the diocesan Chrism Mass on Maunday Thursday, starting at 11am and which is also the annual opportunity for clergy to renew their vows.
