Last day to vote for Elissa!

Ten year old Elissa Lyon is the only finalist from a Church of England school in this year’s election of the Leeds Children’s Mayor - and today (Friday) at noon is the closing date for voting

Elissa, from Cookridge Holy Trinity CE Primary School (and who is the daughter of Narinder Lyon, Safeguarding Advisor for the Ripon Episcopal Area), is one of 12 finalists out of 49 schools who entered.

Over 100 children from Year 5 wrote manifestos and the 12 finalists were chosen by a panel of children and young people.

Elissa’s manifesto is “to encourage families to walk to school by setting up treasure hunts”. Read it in full here

Narinder Lyon says “I’m very proud of her achievement so far and we hope as many children aged 18 and under will vote for her over the summer”.

Voting remains open until 12pm on Friday 15 September. The winner will be announced on 27 September.

You can read all the manifestos and vote here. (You can also vote in pop-up voting booths in every Leeds City Council library, museum & gallery as well as at summer Breeze events around the city.)

Leeds Children’s Mayor is an annual citizenship project for schools that engages children in the process of democracy and promotes a better understanding of rights and responsibilities.
