  • The Parish of Catterick with Tunstall are making sure everyone within their church community has someone who will contact them regularly for support and encouragement by setting up Pastoral Support Groups- see how they are doing that here.
  • A joint team from St Mary’s Church Hawksworth, a group from St Matts Leeds, and HOPS, which is a local charity, have been supporting their local estate. St Mary’s is flyering the estate, offering support to those who are going to feel the brunt of it, including elderly people, large families with lots of children off school and others who are isolating. A group from St Matts who live on the estate are offering to provide prayer, a friendly virtual ear or practical support. Food poverty is already a massive issue in Hawksworth and before each school holiday they cook up about 100 meals that are delivered to families over the holidays, called the Big Cook Up. This has now become the Little Cook Ups. They normally meet as a group each Wednesday but because they are not able to each of the team will be cooking meals in their own houses and depositing them into the community freezer they have. Then St Mary’s will help to allocate the food. HOPS, a local community group, do loads of things with Senior residents on the estate, they are creating packs for the elderly people – puzzles, wordsearch books, little keep fit exercises and letters from people in the community. They are currently trying to work out if this could become a pen pal scheme, where each older person is paired up to someone else on the estate, children included, to keep morale up and isolation low.
