People thanked and equipped at diocesan TEND event in Huddersfield area

Volunteers and Children, Families and Youth workers gathered at St Andrew’s Purlwell in the Huddersfield area for one of our TEND events on Saturday, September 5, to be thanked for and equipped in their vital ministry.

TEND events are run by our Children, Young People and Families Team, and are about: thanking people for their ministry to children, young people and their families; encouraging and equipping them and those they serve to grow in faith; networking with others and sharing experiences; and doing, making time and space to set people up for what they will do next.

The day included a variety of workshops, on topics including ‘Being a Youth friendly church’, ‘Praygrounds’, ‘Interactive prayer for Intergenerational Worship’, ‘When children lead’ and ‘Godly Play’.

The Revd Canon Wendy Dalrymple from Ripon Cathedral shared a reflection and encouragement, there was time for fellowship and conversation and the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield, spoke and led the closing worship.

Participants were very positive about the day, including people from St Michael’s East Ardsley.

Morgan from the church said: “I love everyone’s energy at TEND, it feels great to be around like-minded people all with the same goal.

“The sessions are so informative but also reassuring that we are heading in the right direction as Children and Youth leaders.”

Hannah said: “We always love coming to TEND events.

“On the way home, the car is always buzzing with new excitement, enthusiasm and ideas.”

Emma said: “TEND is such a great day.

“There is always so much enthusiasm, energy and a great vibe.

“We always come away with new ideas and resources to implement in our sessions.

“It’s great to come together and share ideas with other children and youth leaders.”

Canon Liz Morton, Diocesan Children, Young People and Families Team Leader, said: "TEND was a fantastic opportunity to thank, celebrate and equip leaders and volunteers involved in children, young people and families ministry from across the diocese!"
