Saying thank you to all who look after the fabric of our churches

This Volunteers Week, we want to say a big thank you to all who look after the fabric of our churches.

People across the diocese volunteer their time and energy to look after church buildings, churchyards and church land, keeping all these things fit for purpose and making them prepared for the future, and so enabling mission in the years and decades to come.

We want to say thank you to all who play any part in keeping church buildings open and safe.

Lisa McIntyre, Diocesan Church Buildings Team Leader, said: “It’s not an overstatement to say that the people who put themselves forward to ensure the care of our church buildings are an absolutely essential asset for the presence of the Church in all our communities.

“Without them, our buildings would literally crumble.

“Having our church buildings open and functional, safe and warm enables all kinds of outreach and mission across the diocese.

“We know that the people who choose to serve in this way often have a steep learning curve and find all sorts of challenges, but I hope that they know they are valued and I hope that they feel the joy when their hard work comes together.”

The diocese has lots of resources to help support churches with maintaining their buildings, include information and help with quinquennial inspections, building maintenance, building works and more.
