Young people in the city of Wakefield are learning more about Jesus as part of a course run through Every Good Work.
Every Good Work is a youth project based across multiple parishes in Wakefield aiming to reach young people through the combination of faith and social action.
Every Good Work was founded in 2024 as part of the Leeds Diocese of Leeds’ Barnabas work and works across three parishes in Wakefield.
The heart of the project is to introduce young people to faith through relationships and social action.
The project wants to empower young people to lead and help them to make a difference in their own communities.
Recently young people have been taking part in the third Acorn course run by Every Good Work.
Over seven weeks, the young people look at different aspects of Jesus' life and his character, looking at how Jesus sees us, walks with us, heals us, and how He died and rose again.
At the end of the course the young people go on a weekend away where they hear that Jesus invites each one of us to journey with him, and have the opportunity to respond to that.
Since 2024 Every Good Work has engaged 2,759 young people with initial contact in schools and youth clubs and have seen some 35 young people explore Christian faith through the Acorn Course, starting two youth churches to gather young people across the city.
Jo Carroll, Every Good Work Project Officer, said: “We are really excited about our summer event, EGW in the City, which is going to be held at Wakefield Cathedral.
“We are inviting young people from churches right across the city to show them that the Church is a big, wide, living being, for them to grow in faith and to see that God is interested in their lives.”
