Accessibility

In the 2022 summer General Synod session, a motion was passed reaffirming the Church’s commitment to eradicating barriers faced by people with different accessibility requirements. For more information see: Disability Project 2024-26 | The Church of England

The DAC welcomes applications to improve the accessibility of church buildings in line with this commitment. These can range from minimally invasive changes such as installing sound reinforcement or loop systems under List B permission (see permissions) to major reorderings and building renovations including changing places toilets and ramps or elevator platforms which require faculties.

Any building projects are expected to consider the accessibility requirements of all visitors, including wheel-chair users and people with reduced mobility. The National Church has issued the following guidance on potential considerations: Accessibility | The Church of England

There may be some grants available for certain accessibility improvements. For more information see Grants & Fundraising.
