The 10th Anniversary of the Diocese of Leeds

The 10th anniversary of the Diocese of Leeds took place on Saturday, April 20, 2024 and this year is an opportunity for us all to both reflect and look forward to coming decades.

The Diocese was created in 2014, and the Rt Revd Nick Baines became its first Bishop in June of that year. We have three cathedrals of equal status: Ripon, Wakefield, and Bradford, and there are five episcopal areas within the diocese, each led by an area bishop: Leeds, Ripon, Wakefield, Bradford and Huddersfield.

The Diocese of Leeds comprises all the ecclesial traditions of the Church of England. It also reaches across urban, suburban and rural communities, where the challenge for the future is how the Gospel is to be faithfully and creatively proclaimed and lived in a changing world.

We are a vibrant diocese, equipping confident clergy to enable confident Christians to live and tell the Good News in our large region.

Leeds @ 10 Booklet

Click the image above to download our Leeds @ 10 Booklet, which marks our 10th anniversary by sharing stories from across our diocese, from our cathedrals and more, and looks to the future. It includes thoughts from the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines. Copies of the booklet are being distributed to every parish in the diocese. It is made of recycled paper and was kindly funded by an external donor.

Leeds @ 10 Services

There will be a service celebrating ten years of rural ministry in the diocese at Ripon Cathedral at 3.30pm on Sunday, May 12. Bishop Anna and Dean John, with the support of the Bishop of Leeds, are inviting people from all parts of the diocese to share in this celebration of rural communities, parishes, businesses and organisations, not least farming and land management. For further information, please contact Judith Bustard, Cathedral Office 01765 603462 or email judithbustard@riponcathedral.org.uk.
