Diocesan Interns gather as first term continues

First published on: 12th October 2022

Our Diocesan Interns have been gathering for worship and teaching this week as their first term keeps going, as they get stuck in serving in churches across the diocese.

We have 19 Interns this year, with 11 based in Leeds and eight in Bradford.

Their roles in their church placements include leading worship, children and youth activities, outreach, preaching, running events and supporting refugees or people who are homeless and marginalised.

The Interns meet alternate on Mondays in their own hubs for training and worship, and then come together as a full cohort on other Mondays for more teaching.

Teaching and discussions are led by external speakers, with topics covered this term including looking at parts of the Bible including the gospels, the letters of Paul and Revelation; finding their voice and communicating the Good News; worship and leading worship; prayer and ways of praying; handling conflict; the Church calendar and Advent; and spiritual disciplines and approaches.

The Leeds Interns are based at churches including St Saviour’s, Birstall; St Peter’s, Morley; St Matts, Leeds; St Luke’s, Holbeck; Holy Trinity Boar Lane; St John’s, Wortley and St George’s Leeds, while the Bradford Interns are based at St John’s Great Horton; Fountains Church, Bradford; Holy Trinity Church, Idle; St John's, Clayton; St John's, Bowling and Keighley Parish Church.

Seven of our interns are taking part in the national New Wine Discipleship Year, four are taking part in the national Ministry Experience Scheme, and eight are Mission Apprentices.

On Wednesday, November 16, between 7.30pm and 9pm, the Revd Joanna Seabourne, Diocesan Director of Interns, will be hosting an online session on ‘Finding and working with interns – a conversation’.
