Our churches can take part in Give To Go Green round two

First published on: 15th May 2024

The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to be able to invite churches to take part in the second round of Give To Go Green.

This match-funding pilot project from the Church of England supports churches with carbon cutting building projects.

In round one, 11 churches from the Diocese of Leeds took part, and raised £57k using digital giving, which was matched by the GTGG scheme to enable a variety of carbon-cutting building projects to take place.

These projects included the installation of carbon friendly heating solutions, LED lighting, and maintenance work to reduce damp, leaks and draughts.

More on this can be found here.

The Rt Revd Anna Eltringham, Bishop of Ripon and Lead Bishop for the environment in our diocese, said: “After the success of the pilot of Give to Go Green, I’m thrilled churches in our diocese are able to participate in this second round.

“I’m encouraged that the first round of this project was so successful for those churches which participated, and encourage other tangible and creative ideas from more churches, which will all contribute to our diocesan ambition of reaching carbon net zero by 2030, something that is vital for the protection of God’s creation and our sisters and brothers here and around the world.

“I am looking forward to seeing how our churches raise funds in interesting ways, and the positive results of the works this money will support.”

The process for round two will be similar to the first round.

Churches are invited to apply with details of their carbon-cutting building project before Sunday, July 28, and if successful will be awarded a match-funding grant, and supported in completing a 6-week targeted fundraising campaign using digital giving.

The funds raised during this campaign will be matched by the Church of England to enable the churches to fund their project, and cut the carbon in their church building.

Beth Vickers, Diocesan Stewardship Officer, said: “Give to Go Green is a great opportunity for churches with carbon-cutting projects to use digital giving to fundraise.

“It is ideal for churches who already have digital giving in place, but also for those who are willing to try it out for the first time as there will be plenty of training and support available to all taking part.

“If you missed out on the first round of Give To Go Green funding you now have another opportunity to benefit from these match-funding grants.”

Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “Reducing the carbon footprint of our churches can be a challenge, but the Give to Go Green scheme is a great way to get some of the investment funding needed to support your church’s net zero carbon plans.

“Running a match funding campaign can help to engage the whole parish and garner their support for practical improvements for your church building which will make it fit for the future.”

The applications for round two will open at the end of May and will close on Sunday July 28.

The information pack and application form will be available from Monday, May 20.

There will be a Give To Go Green information webinar at 12pm on Thursday, June 6, which churches can register for here.
