A Generosity Week enables organ repair in Ripon area church

First published on: 8th February 2023

One of our Ripon churches has been celebrating the generosity of their congregation, which has allowed them to repair their organ.

The successful repair of the organ in the Upper Wharfedale and Littondale benefice was thanks to a Generosity Week held last year, using resources from the Church of England to encourage all church members to think about Christian generosity over an eight-day period.

Nick Davies, Treasurer of the benefice, said: “With the cost-of-living crisis affecting everyone in our community, we had low expectations from last year’s Generosity Week as personal finances were strained across the parish.

“However, not only did our appeal generate cash donations of £750, but it also brought an unexpected offer to finance our organ repairs costing £6000.

“As a result, Generosity Week has meant that we can complete the repairs much sooner than we had ever hoped and also that we can focus our fundraising activities on other important objectives.”

Janet Edmond, Diocesan Stewardship Officer, said: “It is inspiring to receive your Generosity Week stories and learn about God’s generosity in action.

“Remember you can run Generosity Week in your church at any time of the year to help reflect on God’s generosity and develop a deeper understanding of how we can live more generously in our daily lives.

“The wonderful Generosity Week Resources prepared by the National Giving Team can help you plan and promote a Generosity Week in your church this year and I look forward to supporting your work and sharing your stories of generosity.”
