Mothers' Union looks to celebrate caregivers this Mothering Sunday

First published on: 14th March 2023

Mothering Sunday is coming up, and the Mothers’ Union are asking people to support the perseverance of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and other important female caregivers across the world.

On the day in our churches MU members will be contributing to services by preparing flowers, leading prayers, helping with activities for children and providing other resources.

The day is also one of the Mothers’ Union’s annual flagship fundraising campaigns, raising money for the global community and important projects around the world, which transform lives.

Elaine Swinhoe, President of the MU in our diocese, said: “We know how important mothers, caregivers and grandmothers are and how much they do to help their children, families and communities thrive, often unnoticed and without thanks.

“For Mothering Sunday members and supporters have been asked to buy a 'Gift of Perseverance' to help empower women to transform their lives and reach their potential.

“This year the money raised will be used to give desperately needed support to women, families and communities in Burundi and everywhere Mothers’ Union works.

“These gifts could make the difference between a young person missing out on school or creating their new life at university.

“They could give a mother much-needed relief from hardship and poverty and help her on a new path to grow and flourish with confidence.

“This is a wonderful and positive way to celebrate our own mothers and other loved ones who have supported us or to remember those who are no longer with us but have played an important role in our lives.”
