The Very Revd Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford, has announced that he shall be leaving Bradford Cathedral to take up a new role in the new year.
After a period of careful prayer and discernment, Dean Andy has accepted the invitation to become the first Dean of Faith & Community at CREST Education, a Christian education network of schools in Melbourne, Australia with approximately 3500 students & staff.
In this new role, Andy will be responsible for initiating, shaping and strengthening the Christian ethos across the schools, helping ensure that faith is authentically lived out and woven into every aspect of learning and community life.
This work will involve leading spiritual formation, chaplaincy, and discipleship initiatives, as well as building partnerships with local churches, other schools and Christian organisations across the region.
About leaving, Dean Andy said: “It will be very difficult to say farewell to the very special community here at Bradford as well as to colleagues and friends in the wider district and diocese.
“We are deeply grateful for your support, prayers, and friendship over the past few years and as we make this transition, know that we will carry with us a profound sense of gratitude for all that God has done among us.
“Yet Ali and I are excited to follow where the Lord is leading and to continue serving Him in this new context.
“We know that He will hold us all during this period of change.
“We will let you know the next steps in due course.”
CREST Education also supports the mission of the Diocese of Melbourne and Dean Andy will take up a non-executive position with Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), Australia’s oldest mission agency.
Dean Andy and Ali’s last Sunday with the Cathedral will be the morning Eucharist on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
