New support to help churches with Personal Growth and Leadership

First published on: 20th March 2024

We are pleased to be offering new taster sessions of a course which will help people to become confident Christians.

One of the offers that our Barnabas work brings are resources and opportunities to grow confident Christians.

Personal Growth and Leadership is a course that helps churches and people in the diocese grow in confidence, particularly people who have not had responsibilities in the life of the church before.

Over the past six years, a training team in Bradford has created a programme for clergy and lay church teams to explore how to grow personally and in leadership - to learn, share and put into practice some key principles of growth and leadership.

This is not just for people who are already leading, but also for those with the potential for increasing their leadership within a church.

Personal Growth and Leadership is for teams of clergy and lay together and seeks to increase confidence in leadership skills and learn how to apply them; grow together in awareness and appreciation of lay and clergy gifts within parishes and identify how to release them; and build mutually supportive relationships as lay and clergy.

The next six month course, taking place one Saturday morning a month, is starting in late September.

To give an idea of how Personal Growth and Leadership might support churches, the diocese will be running a number of taster sessions in April at the following venues, with the additional option for participants to join via a livestream:

  • Thursday, April 18 (7 to 9pm) at St Andrews Church, High Street, Starbeck HG2 7JE
  • Thursday, April 23 (7 to 9pm) at St Barnabas Church, The View, Alwoodley LS17 7NA
  • Wednesday, April 24 (7 to 9pm) at Pudsey Parish Church, Church Lane, Pudsey LS28 8BE

Please email to ask any questions, and to book onto a taster session.

We are very keen to ensure that as much as possible participation in Barnabas is not limited by finances.

The diocese has small access grants available for anybody who needs support.

Please contact the Barnabas email address for more details.
