A full scale community production of the smash hit musical Sister Act has been a sell-out success at one of our churches.
St Stephen's Church, Lindley, in our Huddersfield Area, hosted an immersive production of the much-loved show and had four sold out performances.
Audiences were welcomed at the entrance by the “nuns” and were treated to a lively and engaging performance of the musical based on the movie starring Whoopi Goldberg.
Revd Abbie Palmer, Priest-in-Charge at St Stephen’s, said: " The whole Lindley community got thoroughly excited by a fully-staged musical being performed in their parish church. They haven't stopped asking what we'll put on next!
“Being honorary president of Lindley Community Theatre Company, as well as Priest-in-Charge, led to a great opportunity to join together in this venture.
“Our director, Dean Patrick, was excellent at bringing the best out of the cast and the venue.”
Revd Abbie got to enjoy the performance from the stage, as she played one of “sisters”.
"The final song's lyrics "we're just here to spread the love all around" tied in beautifully with our church vision to "celebrate and share God's love with all in our community,” said Revd Abbie.
A review by Jo Sykes on behalf of NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) stated: "a feel good, uplifting and entertaining show which used the space in a creative and imaginative way to bring this divine musical to West Yorkshire.
"A huge “well done” to the cast and crew who took us to heaven and most definitely spread the love all around – it was impossible to not leave the church smiling."
