Walk for window repairs at Leeds church

First published on: 25th August 2022

A sponsored walk to raise money for much needed window repairs is being undertaken throughout the month of September by one of our Leeds clergy.

For thirty days the Revd Sharon Wilkinson, vicar of St Mary’s Church in Woodkirk, will walk 19, 000 steps around the parish each day, praying for the streets as she goes. The journey will be recorded on St Mary’s Facebook page.

A total of £75, 500 is needed to complete the repairs on the East Window (pictured). £33, 500 has been raised already, mainly through grants from organisations like the Yorkshire Historic Trust.

"Our East Window dates back to 1867 and has certainly stood the test of time, however, it is now in need of urgent repairs," said Sharon.

"Whilst the Church Community have successfully raised almost half the amount of money needed this is something we cannot do alone, and it would be lovely if members of our community and parish were able to contribute to these repairs to ensure that the East Window is repaired for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.

"It is difficult in these times to ask for donations when so many people are suffering under the high cost of living but any donations or sponsorship made would be hugely appreciated.

"As I walk the streets of the Parish I will be praying for each street and if you have any specific needs or prayer requests then do please let me know.”
