The bishops of the Diocese of Leeds are praying for all affected by today's attack in Manchester, and want to encourage people everywhere to pray for the strength and courage to stand together against hatred in all its forms.
Their message can be read below.
“We are deeply saddened by the violent act of antisemitism that took place today at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester, on this most sacred of Jewish days, Yom Kippur. Such hatred, violence, and division have no place in our society.
“Our prayers are with all who are affected—the victims, their families, and the wider Jewish community, including our Jewish neighbours here in Leeds and West Yorkshire. Today, we stand in solidarity with Jewish communities across our diocese and beyond, reaffirming our shared commitment, along with friends and colleagues of all faiths and none, to peace, safety, and the fundamental right of every person to worship freely and without fear.
“We encourage people everywhere to pray for the strength and courage to stand together against hatred in all its forms, so that we all may live and worship in peace and safety.”
