The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust chaplains are showing their support of Ukrainian colleagues with an opportunity to light a candle in solidarity this Friday.

From 11.30am to 1.30pm of Friday, March 4, staff will have the chance to light a candle in the chapels at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’ Hospital.

The Chapel Allerton Chapel also has an electronic candle stand that can be accessed 24 hours a day, and the other chapels have electronic stands as well.

The Revd Ben Rhodes, Head of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, as a health provider and major employer in the city of Leeds, has Ukrainian staff members and patients; people have friends and family affected by the war.

“We wanted to offer the chance for people to focus their thoughts, reflections, and prayers for the people of Ukraine, and all those affected by the war by lighting a candle.

“The trust is doing all it can to support Ukrainian colleagues, and the chaplains are part of the support network for them.

“Many colleagues are donating to charities supporting the people of Ukraine.”
