Energy Footprinting Tool open for 2026

The Church of England’s Energy Footprint Tool (EFT) is now open for 2026.

The EFT uses gas, electricity and other fuel bills covering January to December 2025, as well as basic details about church buildings, to build a clearer picture of carbon use and helps all act more strategically.

By filling in the EFT a church can make wise, targeted decisions to reduce their carbon footprint, and it can help highlight where energy is wasted and may help reduce energy costs.

Completing the EFT also shapes how national net zero funding is allocated, and it is now an essential step for parishes to access funding.

Every footprint left behind shapes God’s creation, and by measuring and reducing energy use, churches can show care for creation as a central act of faith, stewardship, and discipleship.

These footprints become not just a mark of impact, but a mark of love and responsibility.

Churches can lead by example, ensuring their energy footprint reflects stewardship, reverence, and hope for a sustainable future.

It takes less than an hour to complete the EFT, and anyone with access to a church’s energy bills can complete it.

Filling in the EFT is an unseen but essential act of caring for God’s people and creation.
