Families experience Easter in fun ways in Meltham

One of our Huddersfield area parishes will be sharing the Easter story with families in an exciting way this Easter.

The parish of Christ the King Meltham are running their Easter Story trail on Saturday, April 19.

Now in its third year, the trail starts with a free coffee and introduction, before taking participants on a mile-long walk with 14 poster displays encouraging thought and reflection.

The trail ends at St James' Meltham Mills, where an ‘empty tomb’ is set up in the church crypt.

Families then have the opportunity for more coffee, chats and a free easter egg, and this year the Christ the King are also putting on a forest church activity, making an Easter garden.

The second event for early risers is the church’s ‘Sonrise’ service.

This early morning service on Easter Sunday normally gathers from 30 to 50 people, and is followed by a breakfast at Meltham Church Hall.

Mike Still, preacher at the church, said: “What has surprised us is it is the number of people who come that would not normally come to church.

"The breakfast in the church hall goes down well, and a number of families attend.

“Some children like the magic of getting up really early to see the sunrise and it is a really magical time!”
