First published on: 11th April 2023

Joyful celebrations of Jesus’ resurrection have taken place this Easter weekend across the diocese.

Services, vigils, pilgrimages and gatherings occurred in every area of the diocese over the weekend, as people came together to mark Jesus’ triumph over sin and death with his Crucifixion and Resurrection.

The Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, attended at Easter vigil on Saturday evening at Ripon Cathedral, before celebrating Easter Sunday at Bradford Cathedral.

The Rt Revd Arun Arora, Bishop of Kirkstall, was in Leeds on Good Friday at an ecumenical act of witness in the city centre.

Also on Good Friday some 30 ramblers took part in a 14-mile circular pilgrimage from St Andrew’s, Gargrave, along the Pennine Way to St Michael’s, Kirkby Malham and then looped back via St Peter’s, Coniston Cold.

The Rt Revd Mark Sowerby, Principal of the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, presided at a Festival Eucharist on Easter Sunday at Wakefield Cathedral.

Services were held in many churches across the diocese, with pictures here from Halifax Minster, St Oswald’s Methley, St Hilda’s Cross Green and Huddersfield Parish Church.
