The Listed Places of Worship Scheme, which allows listed churches to claim back VAT on building works, will end on Tuesday, March 31.
We are strongly urging churches to submit any outstanding VAT claims on building works by that date.
Applications can be made here.
We would like to encourage churches who are undertaking repairs at present, or have just completed works, to speak with their contractors to ensure that invoices are issued promptly for payment, to give churches time to make the claims.
To allow upcoming works to take place by the end of March 2026, so churches can take advantage of the Listed Places of Worship Scheme, we would also encourage churches to get in touch with their Archdeacons and the DAC about expediting List B permissions.
More details on this can be found here.
The Listed Places of Worship Scheme is being replaced by the Places of Worship Renewal Fund.
The fund will have £92 million available for places of worship, but details of how the fund will operate in practice have not yet been fully released by the government.
