Notice boards are a great way to encourage visitors into your church and let the community know of any events and services that may be taking place. It is important to keep your noticeboard tidy and up-to-date.
This both improves initial impressions of your church and can deter potential thieves who may be looking for opportunities to target buildings which appear neglected.
There is no specification for how your noticeboard should look, although you may wish to consult this diocesan guidance booklet.
As a minimum, your noticeboard should include:
- Regular service times
- Key contact information
- Your website
- The Diocesean logo
You should consider:
- Accessible language which is clear, concise, and friendly in tone
- Large, sans-serif font in contrasting colours between text and background to aid visually impaired readers
The Church Buildings Council has also issued the following guidance: Noticeboards | The Church of England
Updating contact information and minor repairs (provided no colours, materials, or designs are changed) can usually be carried out under List A. Click here to download the List A specifications.
If you want to erect a new noticeboard, change the design, or make more substantial alterations to an existing noticeboard, these usually can be carried out under List B. Click here to download the List B specifications.
For more on List A and B see permissions. If you are unsure or need further advice, please contact the DAC staff.
Note that noticeboards cannot be not illuminated, and that the relevant local authority advertising consent (or planning permission) and the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 must be complied with.
