*POSTPONED* Artistic installation to cast a fiery glow on Wakefield Cathedral

Update 18/3/20- Unfortunately this event has been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

Wakefield Cathedral is to welcome guests from across the region with fire and light as a specially commissioned artistic installation transforms the outside of the Grade I listed building and its gardens into an illuminated cityscape.
Walk The Plank’s Fire Garden will cast a fiery glow around the cathedral as families are invited to wander through a series of immersive installations and see sculptural scenes of flames and foliage as they follow fire-lit pathways.
The Dean of Wakefield, the Very Revd Simon Cowling, said: “We are really pleased to be part of this spectacular Night of Fire and Light event which allows us to open our doors for visitors to experience this wonderful building in a new way.
“We will be inviting them to discover the beauty of Choral Evensong; walk our labyrinth, see our stunning architecture revealed by candlelight, or take time out to “just be' in the peace and tranquillity of our sacred space.
“This is such an exciting first for Wakefield,’ he added.
As Night of Fire and Light transforms the exterior of Wakefield Cathedral, visitors will be invited inside to experience its stunning architecture and heritage in a new way with children’s activities, heritage tours and special candlelit worship on Thursday 26 March, while on Friday, visitors will be able to enjoy the peace and stillness of the building by candlelight.
On both evenings visitors will be able to walk the Cathedral’s labyrinth.
These events are part of the nationwide Cathedrals at Night campaign which will see every Church of England cathedral open its doors for at least one very special evening during 2020 to mark Year of Cathedrals, Year of Pilgrimage.
Night of Fire and Light is presented by Wakefield BID, in association with Wakefield Cultural Consortium, and delivered by internationally-renowned outdoor arts experts, Walk the Plank.
