Burial Ground Mapping Project

The Burial Ground Mapping Project is a scheme run by the Church Buildings Council in conjunction with Atlantic Geomatics. It aims to map every churchyard in England including all churchyard structures such as memorial stones and trees and then provide an online mapping tool to help churches to manage their churchyards. This tool can be used to digitally record inscriptions and integrate existing burial records and churchyard maps in one online location. Churches can buy into different levels of service from the basic package for mapping the churchyard to a full service including photographing and transcribing all the gravestones and scanning in burial records. The aim of the project is to provide an invaluable resource for churches who want accurate maps and genealogical information of those buried in the churchyard and can be used as a springboard for community based projects.
