Bishop Nick becomes Patron of St Gemma’s Hospice

St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds has announced that Bishop Nick has become one of its patrons.

After paying a visit to the hospice on Wednesday, he said, ‘It was a privilege to see at first hand the important work carried out both at the Hospice and by the St Gemma’s team in the community. There is no more important matter in life than how we live with mortality and death. I am delighted to become a patron of this vital, local charity.’

He met staff and patients, including Jean Abbey (pictured left), who said: ‘I’ve had medical care all over the world but I’ve never experienced anything like the care here at St Gemma’s. They are wonderful. It was a pleasure to meet the Bishop, he’s a lovely down to earth chap and I could’ve talked to him all day!’

Chief Executive, Kerry Jackson said: ‘We’re delighted that Bishop Nick has accepted our offer to become a patron of St Gemma’s and we look forward to working with him and the whole Diocese to promote the vital work of the Hospice throughout the community."
