Bradford\'s Thornbury Centre seeks new directors

Thornbury centre

A community centre in Bradford, is appealing to the wider city for people to serve as directors.  The Thornbury Centre, sponsored by St Margaret’s Parish Church, is located in one of the poorest yet also most vibrant parts of the city.

The Centre hosts a public library and a community café, Zumba and Yoga classes, and a number of organizations providing IT classes, support for new parents, education in religious diversity, economic regeneration, benefits advice and after school study. Many local people use the rooms for family parties and other events.

The Centre itself, working with a number of partners from the public and voluntary sectors,  provides services for and outreach to the local community including eastern Europe migrants and elderly people.

Fr Nicholas Clews, who is Parish Priest and Chair of the Board said, ‘It is a great privilege to work in Thornbury.  The people are very welcoming and the staff and volunteers of the Centre totally committed to the community.  But we need more people to offer support and advice as members of the Board.  We particularly welcome people with knowledge of human resources, building maintenance and the health service. And women are badly underrepresented!’

Anyone interested in offering their services can contact Fr Clews on 01274 662735 or n.clews@sky.com.  A full job description is available from the home page of the church website www.thornburystmargaret.org.uk;  more details of the work of the Centre can be found at www.thornburycentre.com home page.
