Leeds churches Rise to the Moment with prayer boats

Churches in Leeds are Rising to the Moment this October to meet the challenge of climate change, as part of a joint Christian Aid – Young Christians Climate Network initiative.

The churches are sending a flotilla of origami boats to the COP26 climate summit, taking place in Glasgow in November.

The boats will be carrying messages and prayers for our world leaders, joining a Christian Aid installation of ‘prayer boats’ at the summit.

The Leeds launch event, taking place on Friday, October 8, from 4:30pm-6pm at Gateway Church Leeds, will bring together local decision makers, church leaders and church members at a creative display of the boats made in Leeds.

The event will be a drinks reception, with opportunities to view the boats and add your own to the display.

The Rt Revd Paul Slater, Bishop of Kirkstall, and Alex Sobel MP will be speaking at the event, alongside young people and representatives from countries already feeling the effects of climate change.
