Virtual pilgrimages launch from our cathedrals

The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to launch our Virtual Youth Pilgrimages from our three Cathedrals.

The online pilgrimages from Bradford, Ripon and Wakefield Cathedrals have been designed for primary and secondary age children, to embark on virtual journeys exploring our three Cathedrals in new ways.

Each pilgrimage has a theme, with Bradford Cathedral looking at the Gifts You Bring, Ripon Cathedral exploring the concept of Sanctuary and Wakefield Cathedral going on a journey of Hope.

The Revd Canon Paul Maybury, Acting Dean of Bradford Cathedral, said: "Pilgrims, of all ages, are welcome to come, virtually, to Bradford Cathedral to discover more about their God-given gifts.

“This is a multi-faceted resource that we hope, and pray, will engage students and lead them to be inspired by the different stories they encounter.

“We encourage virtual pilgrims to visit as many times as they wish. Once will not be enough!"

The Very Revd John Dobson, Dean of Ripon Cathedral, said: “Ripon Cathedral has been an amazing place of pilgrimage for people of all ages and backgrounds for over 1300 years.

“We are excited then to be welcoming a new generation of pilgrims who come through the diocesan online youth pilgrimage.

“This is a great opportunity for all of us to see in new ways how God is with us in this part of his world, and as we seek to make young people a real priority for the Diocese of Leeds.”

The Very Revd Simon Cowling, Dean of Wakefield Cathedral, said: “We’re really looking forward at Wakefield Cathedral to offering a warm welcome to all our virtual pilgrims.

“We’ve really enjoyed working with our colleagues on the project and we hope it will be an encouragement in the faith journey of our children and young people.”

At the end of each pilgrimage, participants will be asked a question, the answer to which will provide a number to add to a code.

Once all three Cathedral pilgrimages have been completed, participants will have gained a six-digit number, and can receive a certificate by emailing childrenyouth@leeds.anglican.org with the correct code.
