500 years of experience in Barnsley nativity

First published on: 12th December 2022

With a combined age of over 500, “are we the oldest nativity in Barnsley, or maybe even the whole Diocese of Leeds?” asks the Revd Phil Maries.

Revd Phil is Associate Priest in the Central Barnsley benefice, and has been involved in an interactive nativity pageant for local schoolchildren with members from St Edward’s Barnsley.

The children walked round the church, accompanied by angels and shepherds, and an accomplished violinist, singing carols as they went.

They visited the stable to see Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus, and the wise men.

The cast members all agreed that they were excited to have this opportunity to tell the Christmas story in this novel way.
