Diocese of Leeds Church Building Grants Scheme open for 2022

First published on: 7th June 2022

The Diocese of Leeds Church Building Grants and Loan Scheme is now open for 2022 applications.

The scheme supports churches with maintaining and improving their church buildings so they can better serve and minister to their local communities.

The diocese is particularly keen to support projects that reduce the environmental impact of our buildings as we aim to meet the Church of England's 2030 carbon net-zero target.

Alongside this, the diocese will consider awarding the church building grants towards all items of maintenance and improvement to the structure of the church.

The PCC of St Thomas’ Stanningley benefited from a grant awarded last year, and said: “A Church Building Grant has enabled us to have urgent repairs carried out to fix leaks through the Chancel roof and to replace fractured drainage gullies.

“The grant has made a big difference; it has brought forward this essential maintenance, thereby arresting further damage to the structure of our church building.”

Janet Edmond, Diocesan Stewardship Officer, said: “The diocese is delighted that the Church Buildings Grants Scheme has been able to support so many parishes in maintaining and improving their church buildings as vital centres of worship, community and mission throughout 2021.

“We look forward to receiving a high number of applications throughout 2022 and we are particularly keen to support projects that reduce the environmental impact of our buildings as we aim to meet the Church of England's 2030 carbon net-zero target.”

The next deadline for submission of grant applications is Thursday, June 30.
