Energy Footprinting Tool open for 2022

First published on: 23rd March 2022

The Energy Footprinting Tool for Church Buildings is now open for 2021 data collection.

The tool allows churches to work out their CO2 emissions for the year, which is an important part of helping churches to reach carbon net zero by 2030, as part of diocesan and national plans.

In the Diocese of Leeds our Saving Creation strategy aims to make the diocese net zero by 2030, with data collection an important part of this process.

In previous years our diocese has been one of the top dioceses in data collection, with over 50% of our churches filling in the EFT.

Jemima Parker, Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “This tool is incredibly valuable.

“For parishes it provides a simple way to get an annual carbon footprint report that can put into the annual reports.

“The information can then be used as part of the Six Steps to Carbon Net Zero measuring and monitoring process, and help to inform a carbon net zero plan.

“The Diocese are very grateful to all those parishes who have completed the online tool since its introduction for 2019 and 2020 energy use.

“The data helps to build up a picture of where we need to direct our resources and support for our climate change response.

“The Diocesan Environment Group is currently assisting some of the churches in the diocese that have very large carbon footprints.”
