Harrogate church features as national net zero case study

First published on: 29th June 2022

How St Mark’s Harrogate are cutting their own energy use and engaging with the town is the subject of a new case study from the Church of England.

St Mark’s has featured as part of the Church of England’s ‘Towards Net zero Carbon’ series, showcasing what churches across the country are doing to help reach the target of carbon net zero by 2030.

The case study features information about what St Mark’s have done, as well as videos discussing various questions with church members.

The case study also has study questions for groups looking at the case study to consider, as they work in their own churches.

Jemima Parker, St Mark’s church member and Diocesan Environment Officer, said: “It’s great to have a Yorkshire church featured in this new suite of Church of England case studies for carbon net zero, especially as this is an exemplar of how members of the congregation have stepped out into the community to run a range of carbon emission cutting social action projects.

“As well as having a vision for a carbon net zero church, we need to be thinking about what the Kingdom of God looks like in the climate emergency and how we can help to build a carbon net zero world.”
