Huddersfield Parish Church is celebrating its new kitchen in the crypt thanks to a £48,456 funding boost from the independent SUEZ Communities Trust.
The church, whose vision is to be an open, warm and welcoming community of faith in the heart of the town, has a phased plan to improve access to the body of the church and crypt.
The first phase is to provide kitchen facilities in the crypt area, within an unused storeroom. The SUEZ grant has enabled these changes. The space had many community users before the pandemic, and the community now hope to rebuild this area of their service to community users with these enhanced facilities.
Dr Michael Bembridge, Church Warden, who has led the project for the faith community said, “This is a massive boost for our community space.
“We’ve already been able to welcome new groups into the building.
“It’s the next step to our vision of being fully accessible.
“We’re hugely grateful to SUEZ and our neighbours and partners like The Mission and Third Sector Leaders who supported our grant application.”

SUEZ Communities Trust is an independent funding body set up in 1997 to provide funding through the Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. SUEZ Communities Trust supports projects using tax credits donated by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK. It funds improvements to vital public recreation facilities such as village halls, community centres, sport, heritage, green spaces and play areas.
