The church and trauma book launching at Holy Trinity Boar Lane

First published on: 13th June 2022

How churches deal with trauma is the topic of a new book co-written by one of our priests in the Leeds area.

‘The Dawn of Sunday: The Trinity and Trauma Safe Churches’ has been written by the Revd Dr Joshua Cockayne, Clergy Leader at Holy Trinity Boar Lane, along with the Revd Dr Scott Harrower of Ridley College, Australia, and Dr Preston Hill from Richmond Graduate University, USA.

About the book, Josh says: “The book aims to apply recent work in trauma theology to reflect on how we can respond to the crisis we are currently facing throughout the Church relating to issues of trauma and abuse.

“The book seeks to offer a theological understanding of trauma in the Church and to explore how our understanding of God as Trinity can equip us to respond with hope and care.

“It also offers a number of practical reflections about how the Church might minister alongside those who are survivors of trauma.”

There will be a launch event for the book on Thursday, July 7 at 7pm at Holy Trinity Boar Lane.

The event will feature responses from Dr Helen Reid, Director of the Leeds Church Institute and Dr Roger Bretherton, a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Lincoln.

There will also be a free drinks reception.
