St John and St Luke, Bilton, Harrogate, is searching for an enthusiastic individual who will guide young people within the church and local community to grow into mature and devoted disciples of Jesus. No matter where you are in your career, if you have a passion for learning, this is your chance to make an impact.
The parish of St John and St Luke encompasses two churches with a worshipping community of approximately 250 adults and 60 young people. We are looking to enhance further the youth provision we have developed over the past five years, including our ministry in local schools and annual youth residential.
In this role, you will lead our children’s and youth ministry, working primarily with young people from school years 5 to 13. You will support our team of volunteers to provide appropriate oversight of children and young people, including at our established youth groups, and initiate new activities to help achieve our goals. In collaboration with the rector, you will contribute to shaping the future direction of the church and its vision to see more young people come to faith in Christ.
There is a genuine occupational requirement for this post-holder to be an active member of a Christian church, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, and also to have some hands-on experience in leading or coordinating activities for children and youth. You will be a skilled communicator, capable of connecting with people from diverse backgrounds. A deep understanding of, and dedication to, the core principles of youth work — fostering inclusivity and prioritising safety and well-being — is essential.
We are willing to consider applications from those early in their career journey, provided they can demonstrate an ability to learn and build on skills they already possess.
An enhanced DBS Disclosure will be required for the successful applicant.
Hours of Work: The post is for 40 hours a week, although we will consider applicants seeking part time hours. This is initially a 3-year contract.
Salary: £26,208 for 40 hours per week. The post holder must be able to work on Sundays. The post will require availability and attendance at some evening and weekend meetings and events. Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu is provided. A workplace pension is available.
Holiday Entitlement: 25 days (which should include no more than 6 Sundays) plus 4 statutory days between Christmas and New Year, and public holidays.
