Priest of St Mark's Harrogate and Intern Lead Diocese of Leeds

We are looking for an ordained leader who will develop significant areas of ministry in two settings in the Diocese of Leeds.

Based in St Mark’s Harrogate, a large and growing charismatic church, they will serve as an associate minister with particular responsibility for developing small group ministry. As part of the team they will regularly preach and lead at Sunday services, and will work to develop small group ministries with an aim that over 50% of St Mark’s people are in a small group.

As internship lead for the Diocese of Leeds they will work as part of the Church Revitalisation team to take the SDF funded programme to the next stage of becoming a Diocese wide scheme offering discipleship development embedded in local churches. They will work directly with our interns during their Monday training and will be responsible for ensuring that the intern programme is safe, sustainable and holds true to its value of seeing people grow in depth of discipleship.

About St Mark’s Harrogate

St Mark’s is a lively and multi-generational Church of England church in the heart of Harrogate with a charismatic, open style, where everyone is invited to find a home. The church is passionate about journeying alongside all ages and backgrounds as they discover more of Jesus.

“We are people who party, proclaim and pray” is the phrase that summarises nine core values for the church: community, family, discipleship, intimate worship, two way prayer, the authority of the Bible, transformation, evangelism and generosity.

These values underpin the three priorities for this season: church and families, young people and small groups to aid effective discipleship.

St Mark’s has a large worshipping community of around 700 people and gathers over four congregations on a Sunday alongside a wide variety of mid-week activities. Revd Mike Resch leads the extensive team of paid staff and committed volunteers.

About the Intern Programme

The Diocese of Leeds Internship programme is an umbrella that co-ordinates a number of internship streams (the national MES scheme, the New Wine Discipleship Year, the training of mission apprentices and independent interns)as outlined in the ‘Diocesan Intern Programme Brochure 2024-25’ below.

This scheme has grown over the last six years and we aim to have forty people within the scheme each year by 2026. Interns, in their many forms, all serve in local churches alongside engaging in a comprehensive training programme. The Diocese co-ordinates training, deals with recruitment and oversees pastoral care. The Internship Lead is also responsible for embedding the scheme across the Diocese. The role is support by Katharine, our internship co-ordinator who works four days a week to administer the programme.
